This programme begins with two delightful and rhythmically exuberant pieces by Argentinean composers Ginastera and Piazolla.
The overture humorously mixes reminiscences of Gounod’s “Faust” with Argentine rhythms whilst the “Tangazu” combines evocative Tango styles with a sensuous orchestral texture.
“The Firebird” is one of Stravinsky’s most compelling and approachable works, full of colour and thrilling dramatic narrative.
