Ecology Training Course - Winter Tree Identification Course

Starting this spring, Acer Ecology will be running a whole range of wildlife courses at Bute Park, Cardiff. The Ecology Training Courses 2014 are aimed at anyone with an interest in local wildlife and start at a beginner’s level. Whether you’re interested in identifying the wild plants in your garden, the newts on your local pond or the birds visiting the feeder, the Acer Ecology courses will have something for you.
This one-day winter tree identification course aims to introduce you to the key characters used in the identification of deciduous trees and shrubs. Emphasis will be placed on key characters to distinguish each species from similar looking trees.
This course is aimed at the keen beginner and improver alike and provides an introduction to winter tree identification. Participants are welcome to bring along any ‘mystery specimens’. The course will involve both an indoor and outdoor sessions and will be taught by Mark Duffell, a botanist who splits his time between undertaking botanical surveys and teaching botanical identification courses.
Winter is seen as a time of year when little useful field botany can be done, but that is not the case with deciduous broad-leaved trees and shrubs. Once the leaves have fallen they are in many ways easier to identify.
Course Booking
The course costs £50 per person inclusive of VAT.
Please bring your own packed lunch.
The course will be partly field based and so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
All attendees will be issued with a certificate of attendance.
