Roller Derby double header - SWS v Tyne and Fear and Tiger Bay B v Newcastle A

When: Saturday 26th April 2014 - 15:45 to 20:45

Where: Talybont Sports Centre, Bevan Place, Cardiff, CF14 3UX

Roller derby is not just for girls, so on Saturday 26th April (at Talybont Sports Hall, Cardiff) the Tiger Bay Brawlers are hosting a double header with a difference!!

The opening bout will feature local men’s roller derby outfit the South Wales Silures (SWS) against Newcastle’s Tyne and Fear! Tyne and Fear have been bouting since late 2011, and in November 2013 came third in the Men’s European Roller Derby Championships. SWS have been bouting since April 2013, and are currently the only men’s team in Wales. In December 2013 SWS took part in an invitational tournament in Birmingham (Nitemare Before Xmas) where they won 3 out of their 4 games, only losing to Birmingham’s Crash Test Brummies. They’re also well represented at this year’s men’s roller derby world cup where SWS skaters dominate the Team Wales roster. Tiger Bay Brawlers have been involved with SWS since they first came together, and are really excited by the success they’ve had so far.

The headline game sees Tiger Bay Brawlers B team face their biggest challenge to date as they take on Newcastle Roller Girls‘ A team! The Brawlers B team are currently 46th in Europe and the second highest ranked team in Wales after their A team sisters. The team is riding high at the moment having won their last three public games, with their most recent home game a win against Leicester’s Dolly Rockit Rollers.

Newcastle starting bouting publicly in 2010, and are 19th in Europe – a whole 27 places higher than Tiger Bay’s B team! In 2013 Newcastle won 8 out of their 11 games, showing that they’re a force to be reckoned with. This promises to be an action packed event, that will keep you on the right on the edge of your seat!

Profits from this bout will go towards helping the league make their first trip to the USA this year where they are the only UK league to have been invited to take part in the annual East Coast Derby Extravaganza.
