Hard Rock Cafe

The Old Brewery Quarter, Cardiff City Centre, CF10 1AD [Map]

London, New York, Hong Kong, Paris...and now Cardiff has its very own Hard Rock Cafe too!

Opened just over a week ago in the Old Brewery Quarter of St Mary Street, this place is sure to put Cardiff on the map!

The site of the old Brains Brewery in the centre of Cardiff has undergone somewhat of a transformation over the last few years...out went the brewery to be replaced with fancy apartments and a host of new bars/cafes.

The pinnacle of this transformation has to be the new Hard Rock Cafe which is a sure sign that Cardiff has arrived as an international visitor centre.

Entering the Hard Rock from St Mary Street you pass the official (and expensive!) merchandise shop and walk up a corridor into the main bar area. The bar is a large horseshoe shape which means you can easily find yourself a place to stand and get served quite quickly. The drink prices are acceptable and compare well with other bars in the city centre. Opposite the bar is a large video screen pumping out a selection of rock videos - both recent and old.

The amount of rock memorabilia on the walls is staggering...from Bono's 'Joshua Tree' leather jacket to Bowie's guitars...it's all up there! And of course our very own Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey (rock??) take their place on the wall of fame too.

Just off the main bar area is another section to the Cafe which can be accessed from round the back of the Brewery Quarter. This area looked to be mainly for eating meals - menu here.

The website claims there is an outdoor seating area but I didn't see this, although it's probably a bit cold to be drinking beers outside at the moment anyway! It'll most likely be located within the Brewery Quarter come the spring/summer.
