Copa

4 Wharton Street, Cardiff City Centre, CF10 1AG [Map]

Tel: 029 2022 2114

Formerly known as the Glassworks, this city centre bar has undergone a revamp and has been re-incarnated as Copa. The management remains the same but the bar has now changed for better or for worse...

Whilst the general layout of the bar remains the same, the overall look has altered considerably. It now has the feel of an upmarket bar, more akin to HaHa's or Salt, with light wooden fittings and plenty of glass panelling.

The selection of real ales has been replaced by an interesting selection of 'Euro beers'. Italy's Nastro Azzuro, Germany's Erdinger and Belgium's Leffe beers are all available on tap. The most interesting offering of all is Belgium's Kriekbier which is best described as alcoholic cherryade, but tastes surprisingly good!

Be warned that the 'Euro beers' do come at a premium and you may end up paying as much for a half pint as you are used to paying for a full pint of regular lager.

If none of the above beers take your fancy - don't worry, they still serve the regular range of lagers and bitters too.

For those of you who used to watch rugby and football matches in the Glassworks, you'll be pleased to hear that the large overhead projector screen is still there, as are the many smaller TVs dotted about the place.

Copa seems to be following a recent trend amongst many of Cardiff's city centre bars by smartening up its image in an attempt to pull in more punters, especially during the daytime. Like it or lump...the Glassworks is dead...long live Copa!
