A delightful Indian restaurant situated in Llandaff High Street.
The food is excellent, the service is friendly, though last time I visited (and I have been 3 or 4 times) they were having a less than efficient day. It should be said that was mid-week and the restaurant was busier than you would normally have expected at that time. That won't stop me returning!
As you would expect with a smaller and popular restaurant, booking is advisable if you want to be certain of a table.
The food speaks for itself - scrumptious!

Don't go if your in a hurry
Went here for a lunchtime curry. Only two others and us (4 people) in there. Took forever to take our order then the starters were such a long wait we talked about leaving.
The starters over we waited for our main meal. I had ordered a vindaloo. It finally arrived and all the food was cold. When I say cold I don't mean warm but stone cold. Sent the food back for another long wait. To be fair when it did come back it was ....... shall we say hot ....... no maybe just warm. We got stuck in and to be fair the food wasn't bad. My Vindaloo had plenty of fire and was tasty. The Bariani was average. The poor service ruined the visit. From what I read above It will be a long time before we return.

I have eaten here three times - and that was probably twice more than I should have. We went on the opening week and the service was dreadful, the wine poor and the food average. We only went back because someone else told us they had improved. On our second visit the owner came over and asked if it was our first time there. When we told him we had been there in the first week (over a year before) he asked why we had not returned. Thinking he would like feedback I told him, the service was slow and inefficient, the house wine was poor and the atmostphere a little lacking. He then took us on a tour and promised great things. Unfortunately he then left and we had another dismal evening. The third time we went it was to the Sunday lunch buffet with friends after a long tiring day. The food was quite probably the worst I have eaten in an Indian restaurant. It tasted how I would imagine Homepride sauces would taste. I tried the three curries on offer and had only one mouthful of each.
The restaurant is in a prime position and should be full regularly but is more often either empty or with just a few customers when I walk past. It is a shame as it would not take much to make it better - efficient staff and a decent chef.

Bay Tree Indian Restaurant, Llandaff, Cardiff
We took our son and daughter in law plus another friend there for dinner on Friday 27th November 2009. The service was dreadful, we had to wait 25 minutes before the waiter even asked us what we wanted to drink leave alone taking our food order. When the starters were brought they had not taken my husband's order so he had to wait another 20 minutes for that. The food was okay but nothing startling. We were not offered a coffee instead the bill was placed in front of us before we had finished eating, because there were people sitting waiting to get their table but this was because we were not served for 30 minutes. To top it all, the owner said that the credit card machine was broken and could we pay in cash, he said, "If you do not have cash there is a bank around the corner you can get the money from".
The Bay Tree is not a cheap Indian Restaurant and we shall never go there again.
Unhappy Eater.
