Frankie and Benny’s is a New York Italian bar and restaurant situated right next to the Showcase Cinema in Treforest, just off the A470. Technically it’s not in Cardiff but worth the trip anyway.
The place consists of a small bar area (for those just wanting a drink), which looks across to the main restaurant and open plan kitchen. Many of the tables are in small booths adding to the American theme and the walls are adorned with New York Italian memorabilia.
The atmosphere is cheerful and bright, partly created by the good-natured staff and partly by the big band and jazz music played in the background, making it an ideal venue for a birthday party.
There is a good choice of dishes including a variety of pizzas, burgers, salads, chicken dishes, steaks and chef specials. The desserts look VERY appetising but I’ve never managed to get that far – portions are large.
Take a trip to the loo and learn some Italian. As an extra feature, the music in the toilets has been replaced with a ‘teach yourself Italian’ tape – great fun.
Highly recommended especially for families. Don’t wait until you next go to the cinema – it’s a great restaurant in its own right.
