306 starting problems

can anyone help please, i have a 306 D that starts intermitently,
all the lights come up on the dash but it sometimes takes several turns
of the key to make the engine crank.
ive replaced the starter motor (second hand) , its had a new ign switch

Help with dash lights

Can anybody help? I swapped my door courtesy lights over (drivers door didn't work) and now the dash gauge lights won't work. The warning lights are all ok. I've checked the fuse and it's ok. Any ideas?

peugeot problem's

Hi [Help please anybody] I posted a message yesterday regarding my peugeot 306/ yr02 estate. It's intemitinly losing power when i pull away or put my foot down, I can feel it holding back, then thrusting forwards. This aint happening all the time but it doe's seem to be getting worse. also ive noticed a bit of blue/grey smoke when this happens. Some one please try and advise me as to what this could poss be. Hi you might find the reason it wont start is either due to the immobiliser or you may want to check ya fuel cut off switch hope this helps shane

damage to driers side wing

i had my car in a carpark and it got hit ive replaced the wing but cant aford the spraying anyone know someone that can spray it but cheap ive spent alot of money on my car it is a pug 306 hdi turbo all superchipped and tuned and a one of a kind exhaust sytem that has 7 exhausts on it and its lowered and nice sound system built by myelf it just looks stupid with a blue car with a red wing can any one help.

MY battery light is always on when my pug is not running

hi there can any1 help me? for some strange reason my battery light seems to be on when my peugeot 306 is not running. but when i start the car up and drive it about it goes off? can any1 help with this please

stop light on dash board

On the dashboard where all the control lights are there is a red light with the words STOP which has just come on. This sign is between the rev counter and speed controls.

The car sounds fine and the brakes work fine also. Does anyone know where this STOP sign is linked too and what I should be looking for, like i know this as been mentioned before but, does this indicate the car needs a service or ?
Reservoirs are low i mean fluids power steering that sort of thing or there a more serious side to this.
The light seemed to come on at roundabouts, so i tend to think this could be fluid levels, but i am no mechanic also this is my first 306 pug.

my last pugs STOP light came on and it was because it was due for a service and had run out of oil, at the time i had little clue about cars and the engine siezed a few hours later resulting in another nice car for the scrap man, keep topping up your oil just in case. i have a new pug now and am constantly checking everything is ok with it especially as i have modded it so much. also could anyone tell me if i can tune a 1.9d engine or is it easier just to put a turbo diesel in it? thanks

hi the standard diesel engines are built like poo,i wouldnt bother tuning it.i would go for a mk1 tubo diesel engine that come with a intercooler. i managed to mod mine to 156bhp. and didnt cost me much at all

I have a 306 convertable, 1998 model. I do not have a owners manuel, therefore when a orange light showing a K appeared on the dash I DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT MEnt. CAN ANY ONE HELP ME.

fuel cut off switch

Hi I'm new on here and i am hoping someone can offer some advice. i own a 1996 306 xsi 8v,

on christmas eve of all times, my car started after the fuel pump made a rather strange grinding noise then the engine died. i turned the ignition off and tried to start the car again, this time i didn't hear the pump functioning at all. i'm guessing that this could be the fuel pressure switch, fuel filter, relay or the pump itself.

can anyone offer any advice at all please? (fingers crossed it won't be the pump)

Pug relay switch 1.4 1998 plate

I have a Pug 306. Problem is with a black relay in the drivers footwell. The black relay has started to chatter in and out whilst driving. Changed with one from srapper to no avail. What is this relay for?

Please can some one help. my daughters 306 1400 is messing around .
Tick over is fine until you lightly touch the throttle and then it coughs and splutters, and if you don't rev it up in time, cuts out.
she is only a learner driver so needs the car to run well.

rear suspension

Hi I have a 2001 306 GLX estate 1.6 petrol, I noticed that the rear end of the car is extremly low, when 2 people are seated in the back, then the wheel touches the mudflaps, it is as low on both sides, there is no knocking or bumping at all and the car drives very well indeed, could anybody help in anyway as this would be greatly apreciateted.

I had a problem with starting. I bought a new battery a couple of weeks ago and it was fine. It then started cutting out on me without warning. The engine was turning over fine but it just wouldn't start. I had to get the AA out the other night, all lights had failed, and when I took the key out the ignition lights were still on ! He was great he found the problem straight away. It was a broken engine earth lead. Fortunately he had one with him which he fitted in about 5 minutes and its fine now.

pug 306 cutting out when hot

my car starts fine had a new idle valve and new plugs put it but when the car has been running for a while it cuts out the reves drop when changing grear and slowing down and if its sat idle for a long time it just shuts down too anyone else have this issue i had it put on a diognostic machine and they cud not find anything wrong!

Peugeot 306-Engine fan not turning on

Hi, i have a 306 1996 which is an 'R' Reg.


I have a few problems with my car.

1. The engine fan does not turn on, even when the temperarture reaches over 90'.

2. Also my heaters do NOT turn on, i.e., cold air just blows out.

3. Also the petrol needle is stuck on the dial, e.g. It says its a full tank, but i know there was only half a tank in there.

Can someone please tell me why any of these are happening.

Peugoet 306 (1999) - Not starting

Need help guys!!! Broke down on Monday night. AA guy 'fixed' the car and told me that the earth wire at the gearbox was broken. Engine management system light now on constantly and the bloody car now wont start grrrr!! Any advice?

Losing Power

Hi guys
My 306 is playing up at the moment and its new to me so not sure what to do!
Its intermittently losing power. It will be running fine and then without warning just loose power. When you touch the gas to try and increase power nothing happens, it will limp along in second gear but only for a few seconds after it starts. Happens on flat and hills.
It failed its MOT a couple of weeks ago on the omissions so the Lamda? sensor was replaced and thats when all the trouble started. Don't know if its connected or just coincidence.
Its been back into the garage, they can't find anything wrong with it when tested, they've also run it for a few days, taking it home and using it to collect parts and its not happened while they've had it. I got it back Friday, was told it was fine and 'whatever it was must have burnt off now', its run fine for a few days but broke down last night.
This time it was seconds between it loosing power and it actually stopping completely. I left it a minute or so so it didn't flood, engine starts fine, no problems with start up but the minute I touched the throttle it cut out again.
There's a couple of very similar posts above but I can't see a response to them (I'm new to forums so I'll keep looking in case I've missed them), anyone got any ideas? I'd be grateful, my garage don't seem to have a clue! Thanks

hello I have a peugeot 306 convertiable 1999..I am having trouble with my engine. I am afraid that its getting to hot. I have filled up the cooliant and also replace the thermostat. when I am sitting at a stop light the meter goes way past the middle line. people told me taht it may be my fan. 1999 Peugeot Meridian Estate 2.0 Diesel

My car is 100000 miles and has had good services. The battery is new and it is running well. Exept since few days ago after a night parking when the temp is droping a bit and humidity or few hours the starting key does not fire the starter. We need few attempts to get the starter running. Could it be the starter solenoid which has bad contact or is faulty or could it be something else?

Can't find central locking remote unit . 1999 306 Meridian .
Looked under both back seats under carpet , under drivers seat carpet at base of 'A' door pillar !!!!!!!!!!!
Help . Any more ideas ?? Its defo got one car locks then unlocks using remote button on key .

Central Locking

Fixed central locking (would't stay locked , popped up) .
Took off drivers door and soldered extra length wires in to loom , this is the most common place to have problem (loom twists when open and close door ) . Took bout 2 hours , worth it though .

gearbox grinding

hiya....

ive recently purchased a pug 306 genoa and its started 2 grind when i put it into 2nd gear, it doesnt do it on any others and if im going slow enough i can gently place it into 2nd without it grinding, but if im going abit faster it grinds!!

any ideas wot it could be??

hi all,
im new to the forum, my beloved 1996 306 cabrio, has a problem. after many years of ownership. she is white and red leather interior . in 1st class condition. MOT garages have said she is immaculate underneath. but no advice on the window problem. im luck shes a cabrio in this heat.
any advice on how to get windows to go down both pass. and driver side, the back are all ok and so is the roof.

if i go over a large pot hole the air flow turns off intermitently

any advice most appreciated. thank u maur

Peugeot 306 P Reg

Bought the car about a month ago. Starts and goes fine apart from I have no backlight in the instrument cluster. When i got the car, a new stereo had been fitted in the car and i read that this might have affected it. But i couldn't find how to fix it. If anyone has any solutions or ways to fix it, it would be much appreciated.

the gauge on the right that goes up the return,is the engine oil check.if the hand goes up over half the oil level is ok,if it goes anywheres below half way,check and top up oil

hi jjirmp its about your key fob mate

Have you tryed taking your fuse out mate as i have had the same problem with my r reg 306 xsi. The fuse should be the third one along the top roll from the drivers door. What you have to do is turn the ignition on and leave it on when you take the fuse out and put it back in and the alarm light should go off and de-set it. That is what i done to mine and it worked for me.

Lack of Power

I Own a 1.4lx pug and lately the power in the car has dipped. Which is only just letting me hit a top speed of 85-90mph which is difficult on a motorway overtaking.

Starts first time. Gears feel normal. just has the accel of 0-60 in 10-15 seconds....

I seem to have a flat spot between 1700 and 2000 revs it is only really noticeable if i'm doing 40 as the rev counter is about there in 5 and it shakes the car i'v put redex in fuel had new air and fuel filter but to no avail

Pug 306 1.4 wont start

Here is my problem!
The battery is fine and so is the starter but i have 'no' electrics. The strange thing is without a key in the ignition the battery light and a few others stay on! also if i the key to iginition on a relay is going crazy. The car will turn over but wont fire cause no electric to fuel pump, any suggestion would be great

Peug 306 1999 Diesel Estate Starter Problem

Can anybobdy help please!
I have starting problems in cold weather, had new glow plugs fitted & fuel filter but when temperature gets down to -1 or -2 the engine takes alot of turning over before it starts given it plenty of heat but still fails to start (had this problem last winter but not as bad)
Last year I fitted a new exhaust with catalytic converter the catalyst disintegrated & I got it replaced the new one seems like its faulty as well wondering if it is all linked can anyone shed some light on this problem for me be much appreciated

back brake lights

Hi im new to this i have a sreg 306 dturbo and my brake lights dont work checked the fuses and the bulbs and there all fine it was strange when they stopped working they did not work when had lights off but worked when had them on for a while now dont work at all any ideas would be great!!

Also my heater fan in car only works at speed 4 any ideas please.

Help 306 wont start

Hi all really hope someone can help, recently had my starter motor changed as it stopped working, but for some reason the car wont start now, ticks over but wont fire up, also it is now making a strange bleeping sound from under bonnet near the battery, which we thought was a relay, so that was changed but still not starting and still bleeping,
Ive asked a few mates to look at it but they have no idea what it could be.
Its driving me crazy i just wanna know what the problem is.
Any ideas please please??????

ive been 2 the scrap yard an got a second hand ignition barrel and key. ive put it in the car but it wont start, it does turn though, engin gets fuel but no spark... whats up with it??

306 Guage in Rev-counter

I have a W reg 306 1.8 Petrol GLX, that has this weird guage ive never seen before, i have a sneaky suspicion its something to do with my oil, as my oil was low this morning at it started to flash at me, yet after topping it up, this stopped.

I want to know what this dial is just incase this is trying to tell me there is something wrong.

I have a friend who also has a 306 '99 1.4 LX and doesnt have this dial, and another with 2.0 diesel Exec 406 estate that does. so all in all it hurts my head trying to work this out.

Help where is central locking unit in 306l 1999 model

I literally stripped my peogeot looking for the central locking unit, the Haynes manual said it would be under the drivers seat or under the pasangers seat can't find it in either one. Any suggestions?

306 Meridian mileometer numbers gone!

I have a 2002 306 Meridian but no handbook.
The little numbers of total miles travelled and trip miles have gone out. everything else seems to work OK. Unfortunately as this was a second hand car I do not have the right Owners Handbook so don't know if the fuse numbers are accurate. I do not want to start pulling fuses out willy nilly as there os nothing labeled 'odometer' or similar. Anyone suggest the correct fuse please?

Central Locking Box

Hello,im new to this,where is EXCATLY the central locking unit? i was told its the rear right seat at the back,having stripped the boot out and cannot find it,my unit is dead as the garage told me and cost £300(assuming they know where it is) to get a new one,so i have brought one off ebay,so tried to find the faulty unit but its not there (cant point at them can i?) so any suggestions on where to find it so i can have peace of mind knowing that my peg 306 is safe and locked :)

1998 XSI 306

Hi there recently i had a bleed plug on my radiator stolen now ive tried everywhere in Australia to get a replacement part even Peugeot but they all say they dont have a part for that you need to buy a whole new radiator.Personally i think that's hogs wash it's an 18mm bleed plug on the Opposite side of the radiator does anyone no how to get this part any help would be fantastic.

Clock/Temp Guage

Hi, sorry if this comes up twice, but my first post seems to be missing.
Anyway, just bought a 306 Cabriolet '98. The clock/temp guage does not work. Fuse is OK. Can this be fixed or will I have to buy a new one? Where could I get one? Tried ebay with no luck.

suddenly losing power

we're just have Peugeot 306 year 2001 for a few month, suddenly after 5minutes we started to drive, power loose, then after we stop and try to restart again, its work. Although another day we tried to drive quiet long away around 1hour but nothing happen. Today we're try to drive, and suddenly after 5minutes light on (engine light) the gone then loosing power. then we stop and try again to drive and its work fine. Thats really scared us as we're going to devon after a few days, could somebody advise what should I do?

HELP!

Hi I have an M reg 306 1.4... Basically the car will start and it will rev but as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator it chuggs and dies. We just can't figure out what's wrong with it. We have changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, carb and cleaned all the pipes and that out and still no change. Someone help please I'm really stressing now. Also checked all fuses and relays.

306 Rallye wont start

Hi, i have a T reg 306 Rallye that won’t start.

Car was driving spot on drove it to work turned it off, was at work for a few hours came out and would not start. All the dash lights come on when the ignition is switched on but won’t turn over, thought it must be starter motor so had knock about at it still nothing, so then I got my mate to give me a tow to bump start it but still won’t start?

Any help appreciated.

My 1999 peupeot 306 stopped all of a sudden while being driven. The mechanic thinks its the LELAY 12V numer 240107 made by BIRTRUN

Can you help me please. Where can I order this part. And is this a relay to the computer as the mechanic alleges?

my 306 2litre hdi on a xreg does not start or anything... when i turn the key nothing happens no lights on dash board and nothing hapens to the engine... the key fob unlocks da doors... when i turn the lights on they come on .. but nothing happens to da car wen i put it in the igniotion n turn it ... what could be the problem please help ;;;;

when its cold engine always starts 1st time but it seems to be struggling to run emitting alittle blue smoke from exhaust after about 2 mins everything ok engine running normally no smoke no noise. could anyone tell me what it is please
